The Selection of Quality
for the Safety of Your Project
ESSER by Honeywell and LDA Product Distribution
The ESSER analog system, among the most advanced in the fire detection industry, is primarily based on four key elements:
- Intelligent Self-Addressing Detectors
- Control Panels with Closed-Loop Technology (1 to 18 Loops)
- Control Panel Networking (up to 31 panels)
- Advanced Supervision System
Developed by ESSER, this system is the result of a careful evaluation of the operational workloads within a fire detection system. By redistributing these tasks between the control panel and field devices, it enhances detection quality, speeds up information analysis and management processes, and ensures uninterrupted service continuity in every situation.
The ESSER System’s Key Features
Each control panel can manage a defined number of loop lines for the physical connection of field devices distributed throughout the system. The currently available control panels are as follows: IQ8 Control C supports up to 2 Esserbus or Power Loop micromodules; the IQ8 Control M supports up to 7 Esserbus micromodules or 4 Power Loops; and the FlexES control panel supports up to 18 Esserbus Loop micromodules.
Each loop line, using a 2-wire twisted and shielded cable, supports a maximum length of 3,500 m (Esserbus) or 2,000 m (Power Loop), and can accommodate up to 127 self-addressing devices, including detectors, call points, audible/visual alarm devices, system interfaces, and I/O transponders — for a total of 127 addresses (up to 32 transponders) and more than 200 outputs.
Each of the control panels described can be equipped with micromodules for 4 conventional zones, programmable relays, RS232/TTY serial interfaces, Essernet interfaces, and other expansion modules. They can be configured either at the factory or directly on-site to adapt to system developments throughout the entire service life of the installation.
The core strength of this advanced system lies in the IQ8 Quad intelligent analog detector, which incorporates much of the technology developed by ESSER. Unlike conventional devices, the intelligent detector does not send raw data requiring central processing; instead, it transmits processed information such as smoke alarms, heat alarms, detector faults, maintenance requests, and more. Environmental condition analysis is carried out directly by the detector affected by the event, rather than by the control panel. In addition, all messages are transmitted in real time, independently of the control panel’s polling cycle.
Multi-technology detectors — including optical smoke, heat, rate-of-rise, and carbon monoxide sensors — ensure a high level of resistance to false alarms by simultaneously analyzing inputs from multiple sensing technologies and generating a combined response that determines the alarm condition to be reported to the control panel.
The current ESSER intelligent self-addressing systems, IQ8 and FlexES maintain compatibility with previous-generation control panels through support for EsserBus and EsserBus Plus technologies. They can be integrated into existing Essernet loops, adding advanced functionalities such as ESSER Remote Access for PC, iOS, and Android, enabling continuous system monitoring during operation and maintenance activities. For the centralized management of the building’s complete security infrastructure, the powerful Winmag Plus supervision system is also available.
For programming and maintenance operations, Tool 8000 — applicable to all Esser control panels — provides a simple, efficient, and cost-effective system management solution.
Thanks to its extensive product portfolio, Esser enables the development of projects whose complexity demands the most advanced technical standards available on the market. Our “system” concept has been designed with these requirements in mind, ensuring excellent integration across all technologies involved.
For large-scale systems, it is essential for designers, installers, and operators to rely on the renowned flexibility and proven reliability of Esser systems, enabling fire detection solutions to be implemented, expanded, or modified easily during the extension or refurbishment of existing buildings.
Naturally, the product range holds all the certifications required for the realization of some of the world’s largest and most demanding projects. All control panels and detectors are tested and approved in accordance with EN 54 standards.
The larger the system, the more important it becomes to choose a fire detection and alarm system that is robust, dependable, and resistant to malfunctions and other sources of interference. In this respect as well, choosing Esser means making the right decision.
Every day, highly demanding and large-scale technical projects around the world are successfully delivered thanks to Esser products and integrated system solutions.
Esser has consistently delivered outstanding technical support to its partners, collaborating with them to develop the most effective system solution for any application.
Essernet – Flexibility and Efficiency.
Essernet, a loop network designed to tolerate short circuits and line interruptions, combines multiple control panels and components into a hierarchy-free network for the simple and cost-effective monitoring of large building complexes. Display and control operations can be performed easily and reliably via Essernet, even across multi-panel networks.
Thanks to its modular architecture, all system modifications can be programmed quickly and easily from a single point. Master Panel (MP) and Slave Panel (SP) configurations can also be implemented at any time using the programming software.
With a transmission speed of 62.5 kbaud, up to 16 devices can communicate through the network; at 500 kbaud, the network capacity increases to 31 devices.
